01Before Your Treatment
5-7 days before
- Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products.
- Discontinue blood-thinning medications and supplements - aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E - unless they are medically necessary. Never stop a prescribed medication without talking to your doctor first.
- Discontinue retinoids, retinol, AHAs, and BHAs.
- No waxing, depilatory creams, or laser treatments on the treatment area.
24-48 hours before
- Avoid alcohol
- Drink plenty of water
Day of treatment
- Arrive with clean skin and no makeup, if possible.
- Let us know about any changes to your health, medications, or skin since booking.
02Contraindications
We are unable to perform microchanneling if any of the following apply. Please tell us in advance so we can reschedule or discuss alternatives:
- Pregnancy or nursing
- Active cold sores, open wounds, or skin infections in the treatment area
- Accutane (isotretinoin) use within the past 6 months
- Active or severe cystic acne
- History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring

- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Current chemotherapy or radiation therapy
- Immunosuppressive therapy or an active autoimmune flare
- Recent chemical peel, laser treatment, or injectables in the treatment area
03What to Expect Afterward
Your skin may look red and flushed for 24-48 hours, similar to a mild to moderate sunburn - warm, dry, and tight. Some tingling is normal and can last up to 72 hours.
Around days 3-5, you may notice mild dryness or light flaking as your skin renews itself. This is a normal part of the process.
04Post-Treatment Care
First 8-12 hours (or until the next morning)
- If we apply SPF, begin your home care routine (below) that evening at the end of the first day, rather than waiting until morning.
- If we do not apply SPF - leave the post-treatment serum on your skin. Do not wash, cleanse, or apply anything else until the next morning.
- Keep hands off your face.
First 24-48 hours
- No makeup
- No sweating, exercise, or swimming
- No saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, or very hot showers
- Cleanse gently with lukewarm/cold water and your fingertips only - no washcloths, brushes, or scrubbing
First 5-7 days
- No retinoids, exfoliants, acids, or other active ingredients
- No waxing, laser treatments, or other facial services
- Do not pick, scratch, or peel flaking skin - let it shed naturally
Ongoing
- Avoid direct sun exposure and wear SPF 30 or higher every day
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase

06When to Call Us
Reach out to the spa if you experience
- Redness, swelling, or discomfort that worsens after 48 hours
- Prolonged flaking, dryness, or sensitivity beyond what's described above
- Any question about your aftercare products or routine
- Anything that simply doesn't feel right to you
07When to Contact Your Medical Provider
Some symptoms need medical attention rather than skincare guidance. Please contact your physician or an urgent care provider promptly if you notice:
- Signs of infectionpus or drainage, spreading warmth or redness, or fever
- A cold sore outbreak in or near the treatment area - this typically requires a prescription antiviral
- Blistering, or pain that is severe or worsening
If you experience difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, seek emergency care or call 911 immediately.
We'd appreciate a call afterward so we can note it in your chart and adjust future treatments.
